Spray Lakes Reservoir is located 132 km from Calgary and it takes around 2 hours to get there.

Please keep in mind that is Smith Dorrien Trail is not paved and can get dusty in the summer.

There are many spots where you can fish at Spray Lakes but the most popular ones are located near Driftwood, Sparrowhawk, and Spray Lakes day-use areas.

Spray Lakes Fishing Tips

The most common fish species in Spray Lakes are Lake Trout and Mountain Whitefish.

You will usually find Lakers in deeper areas of the lake (below 20 m) while Whitefish is usually found closer to the shore (3-5 m).

Most anglers use smelts to catch Lakers and wireworms and nymphs for Whitefish.

Spray Lakes Reservoir is known for strong winds so come prepared and bring your tent when ice fishing.

This is not the easiest lake to fish but the scenery around the lake is breathtaking.

  • 5 Trout but only 3 can be Lake Trout
  • 5 Mountain Whitefish over 30 cm.

Bait except for bait fish is allowed
