Chester Lake is an alpine lake located in Kananaskis Country. It is well known for its Dolly Varden that can be caught there.
The fish in this lake is pretty aggressive and usually easy to catch.
Chester Lake Directions
Chester Lake is located 147 km SW of Calgary along Highway 742 (Smith Dorrien Trail). Smith Dorrien Trail is not paved and gets very dusty in the summer. In addition, there is a lot of wildlife in the area including bears so drive with care.
The hike to Chester Lake is 4.5 km one-way with an elevation gain of about 420 m.
This is a very popular hiking area and gets pretty busy on weekends however parking lot is huge and parking is usually not an issue.
Before heading to Chester Lake it is always a good idea to check to make sure that the trail is not closed due to bear activity.
